Good Friday 10th April | Worship
Welcome & Gathering In:
Welcome to you all this Good Friday Service , as we continue to stay safe in our bubbles and reflect on Mount Calvary, as the sacrificial lamb bore it all in silence because he held us dear that we may receive salvation!
There is a Redeemer by Into the Light Journal 2:58
Call to worship
In the shadow of our suffering
Is the suffering Jesus
In the shadow of our weakness
Is the vulnerability of the Christ
In the shadow of our pain
Is the God who cried out
We are never rejected
We are never left alone.
Dorothy McRae - McMahon
Hymn : There is a Green Hill Faraway Hymn with onscreen Lyrics 2:27
Prayer of Thanksgiving
Loving God we thank you for giving us time to reflect on your goodness.
We thank you for this Good Friday which is different from any other day.
Today we are in lockdown, we are isolated from friends, family and church.
But you are still with us, you are here.
Thank you that we can know your peace while we are isolated
Your agape love is here, when we feel unloved.
Thank you that you went through so much pain and suffering
So that we may have life.
Thank you for your obedience, which is what we should learn,
Obedience to you and your word.
Thank you that your word is there waiting for us to read.
And you give us the choice to read.
The choice to follow you.
The choice to receive eternal life.
You alone are the bread of life and the cup of salvation.
You gave up your life, on the cross ,
so that we can have life in abundance
By listening and hearing, then doing your will.
Yes, on this Good Friday, when we wear black,
You left us, but true to your word, not for long.
You are our light, in the darkness of this world.
Shine through us to your world we pray, Amen .
Prayer of Confession
Holy Mystery, our faith stands upon a knifes edge
We long to stand up for what we believe
But it is easier to wash our hands of responsibility
And to blame others for our inaction.
We yearn to take a principled and courageous stand
But it is easier to defer to the judgements of others
And simply go along with the crowd.
We dream of following Jesus to the end
But it is easier to slip into darkness
and betray the spirit striving within us.
Forgive us O God,
And help us find our courage
Amidst the dying of the light.
Words of Assurance
The cross is foolishness to those who are perishing,
But to those who are being saved
It is the power and wisdom of God.
In the name of the crucified Lord, Jesus Christ,
We pass from death to life.
Thanks be to God.

We remember your suffering
Lord Jesus Christ, today we remember your suffering,
The injustice of your trial, the cruelty of your execution.
Today we acknowledge with a heavy heart
That people are still tried unjustly and punished with callousness.
Lord Jesus Christ , today we remember how you were betrayed
By a close friend conspiring with the religious leaders of your day.
Today we acknowledge with immense shame
That people are still being betrayed by ecclesiastical power.
Lord Jesus Christ today we remember how you were deserted
By your disciples who ran for their lives when you were arrested.
Today we acknowledge with mortification
That you are still being abandoned when fear overwhelms faith.
Lord Jesus Christ we remember your courage,
Your resolve to remain faithful, your dignity before Pilate.
Today we acknowledge with great sadness
That people are still being persecuted for being people of faith.
Lord Jesus Christ we remember how you were mocked
By the soldiers of Rome who crowned you with thorns.
Today we acknowledge with indignity
that people are still being mocked for being servants of God.
Lord Jesus Christ today we remember your cross
The instrument of torture you were nailed to.
Today we acknowledge with horror
The great capacity we all have to be hideously cruel.
Lord Jesus Christ today we remember the women
Who stayed with you during the hours of your suffering
Today we acknowledge with appreciation
The people who care for the distressed and the dying.
Lord Jesus Christ today we remember how your friends mourned
And gave you a dignified burial in a rich mans tomb.
Today we acknowledge the sorrow of
The people mourning and burying their murdered loved ones
Lord Jesus Christ today we remember your commission
To spread your hope, your peace, your love in the world.
Today we acknowledge with awe
Your presence in all people we are called to serve.
Lord Jesus Christ today we remember your suffering
The agony you endured because of the sins of the world.
Today we acknowledge with heartfelt gratitude
That you are our Lord, our guide and our eternal friend.
Joy Kingsbury -Aitken.
Loving God we remember
Those still tried unjustly and punished with callousness
Those being betrayed by ecclesiastical power.
Our selves and others who still abandon you when fear overwhelms faith.
Those who are still being mocked for being servants of God.
The persecuted for being people of faith, especially Christian Refugees
The great capacity we all have to be hideously cruel.
All people who care for the distressed and the dying including the COVID 19 victims.
All people mourning and burying their loved ones.
Continue to be with all those we have mentioned
Bless each Bubble within the Parish, the Waikato, Aotearoa and the world, that you created.
